When it comes to Enduro riding and enjoying big lush mountains, Romania is one of the best in the world. And when it comes to virgin trails and unique experiences, the tours with FM in Almasu Mare sets itself apart from the rest.
Why is this tour company special?
First of foremost, we own the entire supply-chain, which means we pick you up in the airport in our cars – we check you in to our guest house – you ride our bikes – we cook your food and we guide you through the mountains. Nothing is outsourced and we have full control.
So… Who are we?
We are Alfred Aldea, owner of FM Racing and FM Parts and now also FM Adventure Tours. Alfred is Romanian and has been renting bikes out to Romaniacs and other top European races for more than 10 years.
And we are Peter Weiss, an international top rider from Denmark (winner of Romaniacs Silver class 2020 and 7th at Sea2Sky 2020) who has coached, travelled, organised races and lived like a moto-nomad for more than 10 years.
Together these 2 guys will guarantee an unforgettable Enduro experience and with more than 25 bikes to play with and endless mountains to play in… There should be something for you too!

How do I book a tour?
You first have to figure out when you want to come and ride with us. Whether you come with your own group or you wish to travel individually and join another group. Once we’ve sorted this out and how many days you wish to ride & stay with us, you will be informed by email how to deposit 50% of the cost. The remaining 50% will be paid upon arrival by transfer or cash – whatever you prefer. In case of a covid situation/case/emergency, we will 100% reimburse you. Also, if you suffer from a “normal” illness or suffer an accident, we will also reimburse your 50% deposit.
Where are you located?
We are located in a very smal village called Almasu Mare. We are the first to ride Enduro here, so the forests and trails are everything but chewed up. This village has roughly 100 houses and time literally stopped here 100 years ago. It’s as rustic and authentic as it gets. The nearest bigger village with some basic shopping options is called Zlatna, and is 30 minutes from our house. Another 30 minutes, and you’ll get to the bigger city of Alba Iulia.
What is the terrain like?
We ride in the carpathian mountains which means a good mix of steep hills, animal trails, shepherd trails, lush green mountain tops, river beds, brown and red dirt. The forest always offer a wide variety of different trails, some more smooth than others – but always something for everyone.
How good do I need to be to ride with you?
Depends on the group you bring or are in. If you bring your own group and you all have the same level, then happy days. If you join another group and your level is either better or worse, then it’ll force me (your guide) to work a bit harder to make sure everyone’s expectations are met – but it’s doable. We have trail-difficulties from beginner to pro.
Do I need to bring my own gear?
Yes. We only rent bikes – not the gear.
What bikes can I rent?
We have more than 20 full blooded Enduro bikes available.. They are KTM/Husqvarna 300cc from 2019-2020 and while some have been less used than others, they are all generally in great shape. Last year they were used little to none due to the covid situation.
Where will we stay during the tour?
We have 2 rooms at our pension and the option of renting rooms at a local pension. Our rooms have 3-4 beds each, so our total occupancy is 7-8 people, as one of the beds is a double bed. Each room has it’s own bathroom and are 4 star quality. The house is 150 years old but the guestrooms are 1 year old and very nice. And there’s wifi.
What does all inclusive exactly include?
- Airport transfer from Cluj or Sibiu.
- Bike & gas, if you rent (if you bring your own bike, gas is not included, but can be purchased on site)
- Heated outdoor hot tub
- Guiding and roughly 6 hours riding per day
- Wine and Tuica (homemade liquor – delicious!)
- Normal wear and tear on the bike
And here’s what we do not include:
- Beers and other alcoholic beverages
- Broken or heavily bent parts
- New tires
What’s the nearest airport to fly into?
Sibiu Airport is the nearest, then comes Cluj-Napoca and if none of those airports work, there’s always Bucharest. Renting a car in Romania is unbelievably cheap and for 5 days you can get a small car for roughly 50 euro. So if you decide to come and want the flexibility of having your own vehicle, then it’s an cheap option to consider.
What kind of food do you serve?
First of all – we always serve ENOUGH. We’re not cheap and we go for big meals every single time.
For breakfast we serve eggs, ham, cheese, bread, butter (most likely homemade), granola/mysli, milk, coffee and tea.
For lunch we get a sandwich and a chocolate bar to go for the ride.
For dinner we try to eat as typical as possible, which means our dinners mainly consist of either pork, beef or lamb and it usually comes with some vegetables or salad as well as some carbs (potatoes normally). For dinner we serve water, sodas and wine, made locally. Beers are available but at the guests expense.
How many hours do we ride daily?
We intend to have breakfast around 9AM and be on the bike at 10AM. At 1PM we stop somewhere scenic and have lunch and at 4PM we start riding back towards the house. It’s very flexible, so if you want to ride more, we stay out longer. If you want less, you get less. It’s your tour, so you get it as you want. We are never more than 10km as the grow flies away from the house, so almost no matter where we are, we can be back at the house in 20 minutes.
What if my rental bike has mechanical issues and it’s not my fault?
In the case of a bike issue, we will replace the bike immediately and you will of course not be charged. Only obvious damages will be charged to the rider, but everything else (electrical issues or blown up engine) is on us – unless of course we see that you directly provoked it or caused the engine to blow up. We are generally very fair.
Also, worth noting that each rider is responsible for his own bike with regards to cleaning. We have a shared pressure washer and it’s up to each rider to clean or not to clean his bike daily. Also daily maintenance such as airfilter clean, chain lubing etc is on the rider. We do not have a mechanic on hold all day long for a job that takes a few minutes for the rider.
What else to do around there?
Alba Iulia is a beautiful city and you can easily spend half a day there and also, we also, there’s an underwater church that could be really interesting to visit. But other than that – strolling around Almasu Mare by foot – maybe with a camera – can also be quite entertaining.
