What’s your name?

Mauricio Del Hierro.

How old are you?

35.

Where are you from?

Lima, Peru.

When did you get into the sport of hard enduro and when did you ride a dirt bike for the first time?

2014.

What bike do you ride?

KTM 300exc TPI 2021

What team do you ride in (if any)

N/A.

How many hard enduro races have you entered (roughly, doesn’t have to be 100% accurate)?

10 races.

If possible, what would you characterize yourself as? Beginner, weekend warrior, ambitious amateur, semi-pro or pro?

I’m a weekend warrior

What race are you going to talk about and what year did you do it?

RBR 2019 – Silver Category (I finished Bronze in 2015)

What was the race format like – how many days, hours or races did you have to do to finish/win the race?

RBR is a hard endure Rally composed of 5 days. Day 1 is the city prologue and then the other 4 days is the mountain race.

What excited you the most about this race? Was it the terrain, the grip, the camaraderie, the organisation, the weather, your own performance or something entirely different?

It’s a mix of factors like organisation, being a RedBull event, being the toughest hard endure race world wide, being in an exotic country (for me) and the fact of it being a long and many days event (travelling across the world for a one day race doesn’t make much sense.

What kind of tires/mousse/tubliss/tube did you use and why? More importantly – would you recommend your setup or did you learn that something else would have been better?

I used a soft Mefo mousse and soft Mitas rear tire. I would recommend it for dry/semi dry conditions. If you get rain as I did 3 out of the 4 mountain days you need to change bike setup lowering it and put either a Mousse with holes to make it softer or a half mousse with tubliss. I didn’t do it due to budget constraints and suffered a lot on wet uphills.

Was the track tough on you physically, mentally, both or not at all?

It was a tough track, that was made even tougher due to rain. Added to this I was not leading so had to race on a destroyed track.

Was the track easy to follow (markings or GPS tracks) and was the difficulty level what you expected, easier or harder?

Easy to follow but good navigation skills are needed

Where did you stay during the race, was it a good choice and would you do it again? (camping, hotel, private etc.)

RBR entry fee includes hotel. I stayed at the Ibis Sibiu and it was fairly good.

What result did you get and are you happy with it?

DNF – I’m not happy at all. I had the skill set and the condition to finish the race on normal dry conditions – but – the rain made it like hell.

Did you feel like you got a good value for your money at this race?

100% the race and experience is worth it.

Finally, would you do this race again and recommend it to other riders?

100% – if you can go train and have your go with RBR. You will have good stories, a good experience and a blast.
